Burnt Photo Manipulation Tutorial.
Step 1:
Let’s start out by creating a new file. I used a 560 x 550 pixels canvas set at 72dpi, and I filled my background with a black color. Now insert a stock photo with a face shot, you can use the picture below to follow through with the tutorial.
Step 2:
Select the Lasso Tool and make a selection around the skin you want to add a burned effect on. Once the selection is added go to Edit > Copy Merged. Now go back to Edit > Paste, a new layer should appear on your layers palette.
Step 3:
Delete the marquee selection on your canvas. Then apply a blur effect through Filter > Blur > Guassian Blur. Use 4.4 pixels for radius.
Under Layer Style(Layer > Layer Style) add a Pattern Overlay blending option to your blurred layer. Then set the layer’s blending mode to Soft Light.
Step 4:
Duplicate the blurred face layer and remove the layer styles currently attached. Then under Layer Style(Layer > Layer Style) add a new Pattern Overlay blending option to your duplicated blurred layer. Then set the layer’s blending mode to Soft Light at 53%.
